The AusCo Generic Hull Design One, was developed as a generic hull that could be configured for a variety of ships or missions. The intial plan was to design a survey ship, but AusCo requested the design team to create a hull that could be used in a number of roles. The GHD-1 has so far seen service in two classes of ships, the Cabaza de Vaca class survey ships and the Liberty Class Cargo vessel. The Republic of Texas has expressed interest in a missile armed version of the GHD-1 for a cheap and effective warship.
